Nahar Blood Bank- Bhinmal
About Us
The Nahar Blood Center is a specialized medical facility dedicated to the life-saving mission of blood collection, testing, and distribution. We serve as the backbone of hospital operations by managing the critical blood stock required for transfusions and emergencies.
Our center is responsible for maintaining a robust inventory of all blood groups, monitoring the "average age" of blood units to ensure freshness, and minimizing wastage. We provide a safe, sterile, and secure environment for processing and storing blood components, ensuring that every unit issued meets the highest safety standards.
We believe that blood drives life. To support our community in Bhinmal and the surrounding Jalore district, our facilities are available 24/7, revolving around the concept of being "ready to serve at all times."
Our Licenses & Components
Nahar Blood Center is licensed to prepare and provide:
- Whole Blood
- Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC)
- Platelet Concentrate (RDP)
- Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP)
- Single Donor Platelet (SDP)
Understanding Blood Components
1. Whole Blood (WB)
What it is: Blood exactly as it is drawn from the donor, containing all components (Red Blood Cells, White Blood Cells, Platelets, and Plasma).
Primary Use: Typically used in situations where a patient has lost a massive amount of blood (e.g., severe trauma or major surgery) to restore both volume and oxygen-carrying capacity.
2. Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC)
What it is: This component is prepared by removing most of the plasma from whole blood, resulting in a concentrated "pack" of red blood cells.
Primary Use: Used to treat anemia or blood loss when the patient needs an increase in oxygen delivery to tissues but does not necessarily need the extra fluid volume of whole blood.
Benefit: Helps prevent "fluid overload" in patients with heart or kidney issues.
3. Plasma (FFP): The Liquid Gold
Plasma is the largest component of human blood, making up about 55% of its total volume. It is a clear, straw-colored liquid that carries red cells, white cells, and platelets throughout the body.
- Composition: Contains over 700 proteins, electrolytes (like sodium and potassium), and essential nutrients.
- Functions: Maintains blood pressure and volume; Supplies critical proteins for blood clotting and immunity; Balances the body’s pH levels to support cell function.
- Usage: Commonly used for trauma, burn, and shock patients, as well as those with severe liver disease or clotting deficiencies.
4. Platelets: The Clotting Factor
Platelets (thrombocytes) are tiny cells produced in the bone marrow that prevent or stop bleeding by forming clots.
- Usage: Essential for cancer patients, organ transplants, and traumatic injuries.
- Thrombocytopenia: We provide donor platelets to patients with low platelet counts to prevent dangerous internal or external bleeding.
Advanced Technology: Single Donor Platelet (SDP)
We are equipped with a Single Donor Platelet (SDP) Machine.
- The Process: A 40–70 minute apheresis process that collects only platelets and returns other components to the donor.
- The Benefit: One SDP unit provides the therapeutic value of 5–10 regular donations, making it highly effective for Dengue and Cancer patients.
- Safety: The process is safe, painless, and allows donors to donate more frequently than whole blood.
Support Services
- Counselling: Professional guidance for donors and families.
- Empathy Support: Specialized care and communication for patient attendants.
- Mandatory Screening: Every unit is tested for HIV, HCV, HbsAg (Hepatitis B), Malaria, and Syphilis.
- Carrier Counselling: Detailed support for patients identified with specific blood-borne conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
A: First, you will fill out a medical history questionnaire to ensure it is safe for you to donate. We then perform a quick finger-prick test to check your hemoglobin levels. If you meet the health criteria, you will proceed to the donation area.
A: The actual blood collection takes about 8–10 minutes. However, the entire process—including registration, medical check, and post-donation refreshments—takes about 30 to 60 minutes.
A: Yes! Nahar Blood Center is a licensed depository where healthy individuals can donate blood to help those in need.
A: While your body replaces the lost fluid within 24 hours, it takes longer to replace red blood cells. It is ideal to wait three months between donations.
A: Generally, donors should be between 18–65 years of age, weigh at least 45 kg, and be in good overall health at the time of donation.
A: We aim to provide blood or components immediately from our stock. If a specific type is unavailable, we inform the family instantly to coordinate the best possible alternative.
